Brevard County is lagging behind the state of Florida in employment. The state’s unemployment rate dropped by more than half a percent from a year ago. It is currently 5.2%, down from 5.8%. Brevard County’s unemployment rate is 5.6%, which is down from 6.7% a year ago. As this Brevard Times article points out, though, the percentage rate reduction in Brevard is misleading because it is entirely due to a reduction in the labor force outpacing job losses. Although there are fewer jobs available in Brevard County, the rate is low because there are fewer people to fill those jobs. Details are in the attached article.
