Although the Space Coast is well known for launching satellites into orbit, they have always been made somewhere else. For the first time, a satellite manufacturing company is moving to Brevard County.
OneWeb, a global communication company is moving into a 100,000 square foot facility just south of the Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island. The move will create 250 high tech jobs, and invest nearly $85 million.
OneWeb will design and build an network of about 900 small, low orbit satellites that will deliver low cost internet services to every part of the planet. They will then use Virgin Galactic to launch from the Space Center.
“This new facility is another step in the dream of enabling affordable internet access for the entire globe.” Said Greg Wyler. Wyler is a former Google executive who founded OneWeb.
